R.Science January 2015: Scientific anniversaries
Welcome to the first R.Science podcast of 2015. It's an auspicious year for the Royal Society and a big year for scientific anniversaries. 100 years since Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, 150 years since James Clerk Maxwell showed that light was an electromagnetic wave, and 350 years since Robert Hooke wrote the first popular science book Micrographia, featuring beautiful and terrifying images revealed by early experiments with microscopes.
What ties all of these anniversaries together in addition to the many famous experiments and world-changing ideas in history is one big idea, the world's first scientific journal Philosophical Transactions.
