One of the men who took part in a notorious drug trial in London which left six men with multi-organ organ failure tells this programme he still suffers from side effects seven years on. Nav Modi is thirty-one but says the drug trial and subsequent health problems have left him with a body of someone 10 years older. Doctors have told him he has a reduced life expectancy. Despite the negative publicity which followed, the number of volunteers for clinical trials in England has increased ever since. Figures from the National Institute of Health Research show almost 638,000 patients volunteered last year, most of them NHS patients testing new drugs for their particular condition.
