In our tenth episode of Pearls' Tales from the Superyacht Laundry, we sit down for an inspiring conversation with Lu Kenhard, ex-yacht chef turned uniform sales entrepreneur.

Lu had an early break into the industry at the age of 18. After growing up with South East Asian flavours, she knew she wanted to do something related to food. She got her Cordon Bleu certification and her first job, which only lasted a day…but remained in the industry successfully for a further 13 years.

Yet again, on YPOW, Delia Smith gets a mention, but more importantly, Lu discusses the ups and downs of her time onboard motor yachts (with a family full of sailors, she really did go to the dark side). Alongside cruising into New York and a whole host of other highlights with her captain husband, those came to an end once motherhood was on the horizon.

Lu chats about bringing twins into the world as an expat and how the long hours, sleep deprivation and difficult requests certainly reminded her of life onboard. Integrating into the expat community in France Lu found herself working for Liquid Yacht Wear, establishing their France office.

The episode covers her personal challenges of battling with breast cancer, shifting priorities and how Lu’s determination of positivity led to her eventually launching her own uniform company: Luxe and Keel.

Advising others, she emphasises not to be afraid of change when transiting to land and how to remember nothing happens overnight in entrepreneurship. Tune in to hear Lu's journey, resilience and strength…
