Autumn insects on Watts Ranch

Sep 30, 2023, 07:53 AM

In much of the United States, insects start calling in the evening in late summer and into autumn. This sound is to me in equal measure soothing as a drone but also filled with melancholy... we're listening to the mating calls of things that won't be alive in a week or two. They represent a reflective, restful part of the year, a transition from one season to another.
