DLT - Medley
Forgive me, Dave. Please. I just had to use the picture of you holding the alarm clock. If I made up a statistic suggesting that 96% of British radio breakfast show presenters have had that pose shot by an enthusiastic photographer on their assuming the breakfast crown, I'd likely be right.
I recall him best for his Radio One drive days, with the Bill Mitchell (did he do that one?) VO - (deep!) 'Dave'. 'Lee'. 'Travis'.
Dave Lee Travis was born in 1945, hopping on board the pirate Radio Caroline at the age of 20, before climbing back on land three years later to join a fresh BBC Radio One, where he remained for twenty five years.
Radio One listeners will remember him taking over from Edmonds as the station's third breakfast show host 'The Hairy Cornflake; and for his 'darts on the radio'. They'll also remember his sonovox 'Quack Quack Oops'; and for resigning live on-air. In those pre-digital days. I have yet to meet anyone who has a copy of that whole resignation speech, captured for posterity.
