The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, is seeking clarification from authorities in Egypt over the status of scholarships for South Sudanese students enrolled at the Suez University of Petroleum and Mining Engineering.

The 60 students have staged a sit-in at the South Sudan Embassy in Cairo demanding that their tuition is paid after some of them had their lessons suspended for non-payment.

Minister of Higher Education, Gabriel Changson Chang, says the ministry is in close contact with the Egyptian authorities to determine whether the scholarships are partial or fully funded.

Changson Chang says the matter is not in the hands of the government of South Sudan.
