Clergyman concerned over rising deforestation in Wanyjok-Northern Bahr EL gazel

The Bishop of Wanyjok diocese of the Episcopal church of South Sudan in Northern Bahr El Gazel has expressed concern over increasing levels of tree and grass cutting in the area.  

The situation has resulted in unusual windy and dusty weather being experienced in the past few months. 

UN Mission Field office in Aweil handed over more than twenty-five trees to the diocese as part the Mission’s civic engagement program to encourage afforestation.   

Bishop Joseph Mammer worries that cutting down of trees and grass may lead to desertification.

He encourages people to plant trees.
