Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 24th November 2018. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through EV story today so you don’t have to.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
PORSCHE SAID TO PLAN $6.8B PROFIT PUSH FOR ELECTRIC CARS
- "Porsche has an ambitious plan to improve operating profit by 6 billion euros ($6.8 billion) over eight years by streamlining operations as the automaker spends more to develop and build electric cars, according to people with knowledge of the matter." according to Reuters today: "The Taycan, Porsche's first full-electric car, is an example of the quandary facing automakers. The four-door Taycan, which comes to market next year, will cost from 6,000 euros to 10,000 euros more to produce than a comparable traditional model, the people said. Those costs will not be passed on to customers, meaning spending reductions need to be made elsewhere to maintain profitability, they said. In total, the sports-car maker is investing more than 6 billion euros through 2022 on electric mobility. Porsche is working on electric-car technology with sister brand Audi and is considering using the jointly developed underpinnings to offer electric versions of existing models such as the Macan compact SUV. Porsche has said the first cars from the new platform are planned for late 2021. Porsche expects half of deliveries will be full-electric or hybrid cars in 2025."
- Meanwhile, "Porsche Taycan chief Stefan Weckbach says despite an all-electric powertrain Porsche’s virtues are preserved." says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs: "The executive goes on to confirm that the Taycan will arrive at the end of 2019. But, what about an all-electric Macan or Panamera? Weckbach explains that the Taycan won’t be a spacious car, so Porsche has already approved the Mission E Cross Turismo for production as well. Weckbach shares that range will surely not be an issue, the 800-volt architecture means exceptionally fast charging, and advanced cooling technology means the vehicle will be able to accelerate over and over and maintain high speeds. He also shares that ramping up charging infrastructure by 2020 is a top priority for Porsche. In the end, the Porsche executive admits that he was impressed with the Taycan’s driving dynamics early on, and since then, the vehicle has improved significantly. He says, it’s not just an electric car … it’s a Porsche."

DPD TO DELIVER WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLES EXCLUSIVELY
- "Delivery company DPD will electrify their entire fleet in Hamburg, Germany by summer of 2019, meaning they will operate with zero local emissions in inner-city districts. DPD will incorporate a mix of electric vans and trucks and smaller light electric vehicles such as scooters and bikes. The existing diesel vehicles will be replaced by the following models: VW e-Crafter, Electrically powered cargo bikes, E-scooters and E-trucks (The company has built up positive experience in this respect in other countries, including the UK where DPD is using the FUSO eCanter from Daimler and Mitsubishi in London).
2020 RANGE ROVER EVOQUE DEBUTS WITH BRAND'S FIRST 48-VOLT HYBRID SYSTEM
- "The Range Rover Evoque is coming back for round two in the 2020 model year as a completely redesigned vehicle." according to Autoblog: "A 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain is the headliner. It will be paired to the Ingenium turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a combined system output of 296 horsepower. We definitely like seeing the 48-volt system being on the menu — Land Rover says it works by harvesting energy through an engine-mounted belt-integrated starter generator. The energy is stored in a battery under the floor of the car. When braking, the engine is capable of turning off below 11 mph, but Land Rover is more vague concerning acceleration. It simply "assists" the engine under acceleration, providing you a bit more shove from a stop and making better fuel economy possible."

AUTOCAR DRIVES GT X EXPERIMENTAL EV
- "This is no ordinary concept. It clearly shows the fresh face of future Vauxhall and Opel models, created in a new era of quick-acting creativity, kick-started just over a year ago by PSA’s acquisition of the two venerable former General Motors marques." says Steve Cropley for Autocar: "This one is just over four metres long, the same size as the current Vauxhall Corsa. It is designed to use a new, all-electric skateboard chassis and features a 50kWh battery that, in production, would give it performance and range similar to that of the latest Nissan Leaf."

Since most dealers today are not well educated in EVs and don't carry enough inventory, what would you choose: going to a dealer or using a service where an EV of your choice would be brought over to you for a test drive and you will be educated to make an informed decision, but…for a fee?
