NEW CHEVY BOLT AND BOLT EUV
On Valentines day we got to see the refreshed Bolt and the new Bolt EUV. Both are built on the original Bolt mechanics, so no Ultium batteries here. But it's LG Chem cells you find in ID.4, Zoe, Audi etc, so the cells are good.
"This newly refreshed and improved Bolt EV actually has an MSRP $5,000 lower than the 2021, with its base price of $31,995 (includes destination charges). The slightly larger Bolt EUV gets a slightly higher price tag at $33,995. Gone are the acres of hard plastics that previously lent it an economy-car vibe. Instead, soft-touch surfaces make the interior much more in-line with pricing." says Domenick Yoney InsideEVs: "The Bolt EV also gets a new 10.2-inch touchscreen in the center stack with a fresh layout and allows for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With regards to connectivity, it also features a 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot, along with (optional on the Bolt EV, standard on the EUV) wireless charging for phones. Both the EUV and refreshed EV will enter production later this spring and be available from dealers this summer. For those who want a nicely-appointed Bolt EUV as early as possible, Chevrolet is offering a launch edition featuring Super Cruise, a sunroof, unique wheels, special badging and an illuminated charge port for $43,495, which can be reserved on its website."

HYUNDAI REVEALS IONIQ 5’S LIVING SPACE
- Interior images released ahead of virtual world premiere event slated for Feb. 23
- Vehicle interior furnished with sustainable materials and textiles such as eco-processed leather, bio paint as well as natural and recycled fibers
- Dedicated BEV platform allows longer wheelbase and flat floors compared to midsize CUVs with conventional powertrains, enabling a breakthrough interior design
- Inspired by ‘Living Space’ theme, IONIQ 5 designers were able to offer a distinctively different interior experience not possible before
"The newly developed ‘Universal Island’ replaces the center console and becomes the centerpiece of the IONIQ 5’s living space experience. The driver and front passenger seats are equipped with leg rests that allow passengers to ‘relax and recharge’ while their vehicle is being recharged. All seats can be operated and repositioned, making it easier for adults in the front to care for children and pets seated in the rear."
TESLA TOOK 80% OF U.S. EV MARKET
"If it wasn't already clear Tesla has the US electric vehicle market locked down, the latest data from an Automotive News/Experian partnership released Sunday should underscore the notion. Of all the EVs registered in the US in 2020, Tesla vehicles made up 79% of them. That's not a typo: seventy-nine percent. That leaves just 21% to carve up for the numerous other automakers and highlights an immense challenge for legacy automakers to unseat Tesla's cache with EVs." says CNET: "Americans registered 200,691 Tesla cars in 2020 -- a 16% increase from 2019, according to the data. The automaker's four models currently on sale also each found a slot to fill out the top five EVs last year. The only non-Tesla is the Chevrolet Bolt EV, which was the third-placed EV on the list with 19,664 registered."

TESLA CHINA OFFERING FREE TRIAL OF ENHANCED AUTOPILOT
"As part of their Chinese New Year celebrations, Tesla is now offering a trial of Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) in China." says Drive Tesla Canada: "The first offer is for new buyers who received their vehicles before February 15. Tesla will provide a free trial of EAP until February 26. This offer is only valid for those who didn’t buy EAP or FSD at the time of purchase. The second offer is for those who purchase either EAP or FSD at the time of ordering. If you take delivery between February 16 and June 30, 2021, you will get a 30-day trial to test out the self-driving software. This latest offers comes on the heels of Tesla reintroducing EAP in a number of markets outside North America, including China. The likely reason behind the promotional offer is to get more customers in China to buy the FSD package. CEO Elon Musk said the FSD adoption rate in China is only around 1-2%"

APPLE AND NISSAN NOT WORKING TOGETHER
According to Business Insider:
Nissan and Apple held brief talks on developing an autonomous car together, per The Financial Times.
The talks stopped when Apple and Nissan disagreed over the electric vehicle's branding, sources said.
South Korean firm Hyundai had previously confirmed, then denied, being in talks with Apple about the car.
LUCID CLOSE TO SPAC DEAL
"Lucid Motors Inc is getting close to a deal to go public at a roughly $12-billion valuation after veteran dealmaker Michael Klein's blank-check acquisition firm launched a financing effort to back the transaction, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The merger between Lucid and Klein's Churchill Capital IV Corp would be the biggest in a string of deals by electric vehicle makers such as Nikola Corp and Fisker Inc that have gone public by combining with special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs)." according to Autoblog: "To help fund construction of a U.S. assembly plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, Lucid was boosted by a $1 billion investment in 2018 by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Churchill Capital IV's share price has surged more than 300% since Bloomberg News reported in January that it was in talks to merge with Lucid."
