FORD PLEDGES TO BE ALL ELECTRIC IN EUROPE BY 2030
"Ford announced a major push into electric vehicles in Europe, vowing to convert its entire passenger car lineup on the continent to electrics by 2030. Ford will spend $1 billion to revamp its factory in Cologne, Germany, and make it a base for production of zero local emission cars using Volkswagen’s mechanical framework, said Stewart Rowley, president of Ford of Europe, during an online news conference Wednesday." says Autoblog: "The new electric car is to reach the market in mid-2023, and could be followed by a second one there in the future. The moves are part of Ford's push to offer fully electric or plug-in gas-electric versions of all passenger vehicles in Europe by 2024, with all European vehicles going to full electric by 2030. The company also predicted that two-thirds of its European commercial vehicle sales will be electric or plug-in hybrids by 2030."
Autocar ponts out: "That all-new EV will sit atop the Volkswagen Group's MEB electric architecture - as used by the new ID 3 and ID 4 - as part of a strategic platform-sharing agreement between the two firms. Ford has the option of producing a second EV at Cologne using the MEB, and has promised further details within the next few months. Ford has been beaten to market by rival manufacturers in several key EV sectors, but its plans for the next decade are wide-ranging. The company is investing $22bn (£15.8bn) in electrification globally – a figure it claims is double that of previous plans."

VOLKSWAGEN ID.5 PRE-PRODUCTION HAS BEGUN
"Two years ago, Volkswagen was flooding the blogosphere with concept vehicles which it said would be built on its multi-use MEB electric car platform, all of them given names that used lots of Zs. There was the Crozz, Roomzz, and Buzz" reports CleanTechnica, but they're all getting their numbers, and now the ID.5: "Recently, the company leaked news about the ID.6 — a 7-passenger version of the ID.4 — on a Chinese government website. Over at Reddit, sharp eyed readers have spotted photos of the ID.7 — aka ID Buzz — undergoing testing on public roads. The photos show a VW T6 van but it is adorned with electric car license plates, indicating that it is a test mule that uses the MEB powertrain. the ID.5 is similar to the ID Crozz concept that Volkswagen released in 2109. It is essentially the ID.4 with a more coupe-like roof line. It has the same 77 kWh battery, the same 150 kW electric motor driving the rear wheels, and may be available at some point in a dual motor version that adds a 75 kW motor for the front wheels."
Where will it be sold? Will it be a global car like he ID.4? What will the price be compared to the ID.4? Is this more of a Model Y and Mach-E competitor?

MERCEDES-BENZ EQC UPDATED IN EUROPE
"Mercedes-Benz announced new, more attractive base model and new sports version of its EQC electric SUV for Europe (in dealer showrooms in May). In 2020 the company has sold in about 20,000 copies. The new base version - EQC 400 4MATIC - is identically configured throughout Europe, starting in Germany at €66,068.80 ($79,700), including 19% VAT. The second, sportier and more expensive option is the 400 4MATIC AMG Line, starting at €73,208.80 ($88,300)." reports INsideEVS: "The new pricing, is especially important for Germany, where the effective price can be reduced to €58,093.80. Both are equipped with the 11 kW three-phase on-board charger as standard (peak DC fast charging is 110 kW), but in general, there is no change to the battery (80 kWh) and dual motor all-wheel drive powertrain (300 kW). The all-electric range is estimated at 421-462 km (262-287 miles) WLTP."

PEUGEOT E-RIFTER TO BE AVAILABLE IN TWO LENGTHS
"Groupe PSA is continuing their electrification initiative with Peugeot giving the Rifter van an electric drive. The high-roof family van with up to seven seats will be launched on the market in autumn 2021 as the e-Rifter, which includes familiar PSA drive technology." says electrive: "In Peugeot’s model portfolio, the Rifter is the passenger car counterpart to the smaller Partner van, for which the electric version has also already been announced for autumn 2021. At Opel/Vauxhall, the double is called Combo-e Life (passenger car) or Combo-e Cargo (commercial vehicle), at Citroën it is the ë-Berlingo and ë-Berlingo panel van."

VOLTA TRUCKS TO USE PROTERRA BATTERY
Volta Trucks, the full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, has selected Proterra, a leading innovator in commercial vehicle electrification technology, as the battery supplier for the Volta Zero. The Volta Zero is the world’s first purpose-built, full-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle designed specifically for inner city freight distribution.
This significant contract completes Volta Trucks’s strategic sourcing of the electric powertrain. Volta Zero vehicles are scheduled to start customer trials later in 2021, with tens of thousands of trucks expected on the roads soon after series production starts around 12 months later.
MCLAREN SHOWS THE WORLD ITS 205 MPH PLUG-IN HYBRID SUPERCAR
"The electric motor the Artura uses is interesting as well: it’s what’s sometimes called an “inside out” electric motor. Technically, it’s an axial flux motor, which puts an electric motor’s moving component, the rotor, actually inside the stator, and flattened out into more of a disc than a cylinder shape, creating an extremely power-dense and compact unit." repotrs Jalpnik: "the electricity for the motor comes from a 7.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, liquid-cooled and divided into five modules and mounted right in the middle, under the rear of the passenger compartment."

STAYING WARM IN TEXAS IN AN EV
From REddit u/Razzooz: "We are experiencing an historic winter storm here in Texas. The power grid is not able to handle this type of demand, and allot of neighborhoods are experiencing power outages for hours at a time when the temperature outside is in the single digits. We had the power go out for 6 hours last night. Our house does not have gas, and we ran out of firewood... what are we going to do. If only we had some sort of sleeping pod with a 75kw battery that can keep us warm through the night. Oh wait we do. So my wife my dog and my newborn daughter slept in the garage in our Model3 all nice and cozy. If I didn't have this car, it would have been a very rough night.
Thanks for all the real support guys.
And to the "helpful" use a blanket advice... you can't just wrap an infant in a bunch of blankets and go to sleep."
