Episode 1326, Jul 22, 2020, 09:52 AM
The Ministry of general education says the opening of schools in the country will depend on COVID-19 trends as established by the ministry of health.
UNICEF and UNESCO have called for re-opening of schools saying that by staying home the students are more vulnerable to child labor, gender and sexual related violence among other dangers.
The Undersecretary in Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Kuyok Aboal Kuyok, says South Sudan is not ready for the re-opening of schools given the current situation in the country, during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Kuyok added that with over 6,000 schools in the country, the money available to ensure the students safety is not enough.
“We must disinfect the schools, we must have hygiene sanitation in schools, that is provision of water soap and sanitizers, all the PPEs, he said”
The undersecretary says the most important thing is the safety of the children and the community.
