Joint Verification Committee confirms absence of child soldiers at SPLA-IO cantonment site in Lobonok

A joint assessment team from the government and the United Nations has concluded a verification mission to an opposition cantonment site in Lobonok county in Central Equatoria and confirmed that there are no child soldiers in the opposition ranks. 

The Joint Verification Committee comprising the #SouthSudan  Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Commission, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and UN Children's Agency, UNICEF, visited the Loboju cantonment site occupied by SPLA-IO forces as part of their child protection mandate. 

UNMISS Chief of Child Protection Alfred Orono Orono commended the forces and advised them to continue to respect and protect the rights of children.
