Pitching Duel Goes Porcello's Way, Red Sox Secure Sixth Straight Win

To make the playoffs, a team has to beat both the weak and the adequate competition. The Red Sox have only been able to check off one of those boxes this season, and it isn’t the latter.

Last night, Boston took a huge step in the right direction and conquered the Twins 2-0. With respect to the three-game sweep they pulled off against the Baltimore Orioles just days before, this was no easy task. Minnesota has amassed 47 wins through a combination of shut down pitching and explosive hitting and starter Jose Berrios meant business, retiring 19 straight batters.

But Rick Porcello wasn't fazed and did him one better, compiling seven scoreless innings on eight strikeouts. All the righty needed was a little run support which he got from J.D. Martinez in the first.

Looking to forget his last outing, David Price will aim to make it seven straight for the World Series Champs. The AL Central leaders counter with longtime veteran Michael Pineda.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10.
