"We need our coaches!" - children plead with Dept of Education to not cut funding for a school sports programme
Pupils from a primary school in Newry are pleading with the permanent secretary at the Department of Education to keep funding a sports programme at their school. Last week it was confirmed that the schools curriculum sports programme is to end. The scheme provided primary schools with a coach from either the GAA or Irish Football Association, employing more than 50 coaches. But the Department of Education said it could not make further funding available due to "pressures on the education budget". Vinny spoke to Kevin Donaghy, principal of St Ronan's Primary School.
