S.Sudan government asks UN Security Council to reconsider targeted sanctions against top officials
The Spokesperson in the ministry of Foreign Affairs says targeted sanctions against two senior government officials will derail peace efforts.
On Saturday, the UN Security Council slapped a travel ban and assets freeze on Defence Minister Kuol Manyang Juk and Cabinet Affairs Minister, Martin Elia Lomuro alongside Gen Koang Rambang Chol of the SPLM/A-IO.
Spokesperson in the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mawien Makol Ariik says the sanctions against Kuol Manyang and Elia Lomuro will ‘derail peace efforts,’ adding that both ministers are active players in the peace process.
Spokesperson Mawien acknowledges violations have been committed but says the ministers should not be held responsible.
He spoke to Philip Wani in this interview.
