Aberdeen synagogue forced to close after more than 70 years because of flood damage.

Aberdeen's Jewish community have been forced from their synagogue, only weeks before the biggest holiday in their calendar.

With Yom Kippur and Jewish New Year this month, flood damage has forced the 60-strong congregation from the city's only synagogue, in Dee Street.

Funds for repairs are low, as the synagogue just spent tens of thousands of pounds upgrading the electrics in the listed Georgian House - only to have the roof of the main hall collapse because of a faulty washing machine on the first floor.

They've now launched a 10-thousand pound fundraising effort to cover costs that their insurance won't.
