15 Children die in botched vaccination campaign in Kapoeta East South Sudan
The National Ministry of Health says 15 children have died have died after receiving measles vaccines in Kapoeta East county in South Sudan.
The children, all under the age of five, were vaccinated during a campaign that targeted more than 2 million children across the country. Addressing journalists in Juba today, health minister Riak Gai Kok blamed the deaths on human error
He says one syringe was used for all the children, the vaccine was not stored properly and children as young as 12 were involved in the vaccination activity and untrained. More in this statement.
