The number of 999 calls made to Staffordshire Police by victims reporting domestic abuse has reached a five year high -- at almost twenty four thousand.

But the record figure came as Staffordshire Police was criticised by inspectors -- who found "inconsistent and insufficient" responses given to victims.

Since then hundreds of the force's officers have been retrained -- including meeting former victims of domestic violence, such as Paula, who now works supporting others.
