Dogs, cats, goldfish, maybe even the odd parrot... we are a nation of pet lovers.

But when our affection for keeping animals at home gets a little more exotic it doesn't always go to plan.

A Staffordshire animal sanctuary is warning that it's being forced to turn away calls to rescue animals because of what is being described as an "epidemic" of people neglecting rarer creatures.

Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre is now fundraising to build new homes for its more than two hundred residents, from tiny monkeys to wolves.
