The army has confirmed renewed fighting in southern Unity state. SPLA spokesperson Colonel Phillip Aguer says the attacks in Leer and Koch counties have ben ongoing for the last 3 days.

The fighting comes one month after the government and opposition declared a permanent ceasefire with the signing of a peace agreement.

Col. Aguer blames the breach of the ceasefire on the SPLA in the opposition. The opposition is yet to respond to the allegations.

In this interview Col Aguer says the attacks come at a time when military commanders from both sides should be sitting down to agree on modalities for the implementation of the ceasefire.
