Greece Debt Crisis - Interview With Greek MEP Georgios Kyrtsos
It's a crucial week for the Greece and it's survival in the Eurozone: the country owes one of its international creditors, the IMF €1.6bn by the end of this month on June 30, which it can't repay unless €7.2bn of its bailout fund is released to the country by the "Institutions", formally known as the Troika. Without this funding Greece will almost certainly default which could make it's participation in the Euro currency untenable. Amid bitter wrangling between Greece and its creditors (the IMF, EU Commission and ECB) over implementing fiscal and economc reforms in that country, a condition for receiving bailout monies, the Syriza led Greek government under PM Alexis Tsipras has presented last gasp proposals for an 11th hour solution, which is hoped can be a basis for progress. In the midst of this took place a seminar in the EU Parliament hosted by Greek MEP Georgios Kyrtsos, who wants more informal discussion and dialogue about the Greek crisis. Owen Stafford went along to listen to the debate and spoke with Mr Kyrtsos afterwards to get a Greek perception on the long running debt crisis.
