Should parents be fined if children are late for school?

How should schools deal with pupils that are repeatedly late? Extra work or detention? Or how about fining their parents? Schools in England are looking at imposing £60 fines on parents whose children are repeatedly late and the penalty could double if its not paid with in a set time period.

The proposals even suggest that parents who refuse to pay could be prosecuted or even jailed.

What do you think at home? How would you feel about getting a £60 fine sent home from your kid's school? Or is this the way to give them a lesson in good time keeping?

Former school principal Andy McMoran and commentator Lata Sharma discuss the issue with Nolan.
