The Migrant Tragedy - An Interview With The EESC

The EU institutions have been presed from all sides to act in the face of the trecent tragic events in the Mediterranean, with many demanding action and not just words and lip service in dealing with the issue of people smuggling and migrants' attempts to make their way to Europe, legally or otherwise to escape conflict, persecution and poverty in their own countries. One of those orgnisations demanding action is the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) the EU institution made up of groups who represent Employers Trade Unions and other civil society groups. Henri Malosse, EESC president has been very critical of the EU's response and is demanding action from the Commission and Member States to tackle this most serious issue.
