Audrey McKinnon's favourite story of the year: 25 years collecting plant species from across Canada -- all planted in one Prince George backyard
Daybreak North associate producer Audrey McKinnon's pick of 2014 is a story about a man who, as a boy, wished he could become a botanist. When he struggled in school as what they called a "slow learner," he failed to reach that goal, but forged his own path as a cross-Canada plant collector.
In this piece, Jim Good takes Audrey on a two-hour walk through his life's passion and his personal escape after long days working as a janitor at the hospital. In Good's forest, an Eastern White Cedar from Southern Quebec grows right next to a Western Red Cedar from the Fraser Valley and a Coyote Cactus transplanted from Southwestern Saskatchewan grows straight from Prince George soil.
