Albania - Death of Enver Hoxha 1985

For most of his forty year rule of Albania leader Enver Hoxha ensured he was unopposed by despatching many of enemies to long terms of imprisonment or the death penalty. During his reign this Communist country was closed to most visitors and, as BBC foreign correspondent Mark Braine recalls following Hoxha’s death in April 1985, few were granted visas to enter the country.
