Simon Mayo Goes National

Simon Mayo’s first appearance on national radio was a true baptism of fire, providing holiday cover for Gary Davies (“Gary’s bit in the middle”) on Radio 1 in 1986. Seemingly grabbed from the street at short notice Simon had joined the network from Radio Nottingham and was due to start a regular programme a couple of months later – his Saturday night show kicked off on 3 May.
