Turkish mining accident: 'This is not just a disaster - this is carnage'

Hundreds of protesters converged on the energy ministry to protest, after an explosion at a coal mine in Soma in the west of the country killed at least 240 people.

There've also been violent protests in the town itself.

The Turkish government says an electrical fault triggered the blast. Hundreds of miners are still missing.

The tragedy is training a new spotlight on safety in the mining industry, already one of the most dangerous in the world.

Kamal Ozkhan is a Turkish union leader. He's assistant general secretary at the umbrella union IndustriAll, which represents around four million miners in Europe.

He gave World Business Report's Mike Johnson his reaction to the disaster:
