One fourth of the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is absorbed by the oceans. The oceans then become more acidic, harming all marine life and affecting the food chain. Since much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere day after day, imagine what will happen in 50 years. Some species that are alive today may be extinct sooner than humans expect.
