Some new surveys that have been going on for six years are showing that bees are dying off during the winter at an average rate of 30%. Bees are mainly dying because of a bee killing pesticide called neonicotinoids. This is affecting crops that rely on the commercial bees because bees take away the nectar and pollen from the crop, and with not enough bees, crop numbers will decrease severely.
