We're now used to BBC Radio 3 broadcasting round the clock. But its predecessor The Third Programme was an evening only affair. From August 1964 the BBC started to use the Third's frequencies to broadcast classical music during the day, known as "the Music Programme". Initially it was only on a Sunday but by March 1965 there was a full daytime programme of classical music concerts and "gramophone records" each day from 7 a.m.
