Cash's classic albums recorded at Folsom Prison and San Quentin are well known but few are aware that these were just two of many prison concerts he played over decades. Danny Robins discovers how the singer became a passionate prison reformer who donated his own money to the cause, took a prisoner into his home and met Richard Nixon to force the issue. Hear his brother, Tommy Cash reading the transcript from Johnny's speech in front of the US Senate in this clip from the show, broadcast Monday 7th January 2013, BBC Radio 4.
