Radio Aire launch - 1981

Leeds had to wait until the second tranche of commercial radio launches - some years after neighbouring, and smaller, Bradford. This resulted from a combination of the premature end to Round One of the franchising - and the agreements between the BBC and the regulator, the IBA, about who should launch local stations where.  Aire came on air on 1st September 1981.
