The Super Station
I recall the first night of this back in July 1988. Management and staff gathered at our station late at night to push up the fader and hear the excitement of the project known as 'Radio Radio', branded on air as 'The Super Station'.
These were the first, tentative steps into networking; and engineers got very excited. The service was broadcast from 10.00 p.m until 6.00 a.m on a number of ILR stations; and was funded by Richard Branson.
It featured a host of impressive names at the outset: Jonathan Ross, Johnnie Walker; and Ruby Wax, although these later gave way to more than proficient radio professionals. Ross was produced by a ginger-haired lad.
The project lasted until 1990.
