The holidays can be a busy time with so much to prep for shopping, decorating, and, of course, gift-giving. According to new data, 81%* of people believe that presentation matters most when giving a gift. Scotch Brand gift-wrapping expert Amber Kemp-Gerstel stopped by to share wrapping, packing, and shipping tips and tricks.

Well, you know that face you make when you’re handed a bagged or unwrapped gift that feels like it was an afterthought, or even worse—a last-minute regift? Everyone knows it—but it hasn’t had a name…until now. Scotch Brand is establishing this phenomenon called Resting Gift Face (RGF) and demonstrating how hand-wrapped and packed gifts with Scotch Brand is the only way to combat RGF this holiday season. Here are three top tips to do so.

  1. First, have the right tools on hand, especially Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape. It’s perfect for smooth, seamless wrapping and helps provide a nearly flawless finish, even if you are a beginner wrapper.
  2. Next, choose a theme. Having specific wrapping paper for the occasion is not only cohesive but shows that you put thought into the presentation of your gifts.
  3. Always make sure to measure the wrapping paper before you cut it based on the height and width of the present. This will help prevent wrapping paper waste.
If you’re still feeling overwhelmed, remember not to put too much pressure on yourself and remember the reason for the season. Sometimes, the simplest final touches on a gift can make all the difference. Seeing a recipient open a gift that has carefully placed bows, some sparkles, or a shipping box that has confetti makes the effort all worthwhile.

When sending gifts to loved ones who live further away, securely pack each item inside sturdy shipping boxes. Try sealing shipping boxes with just one strip of Scotch Heavy Duty Packaging Tape. It has the ultimate strength to ensure boxes stay sealed through transit and the gift inside arrives safely.

As for bulky or oddly shaped items such as a ball, use Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure the folds as you gather the paper around the ball. Then, you can always tape a big bow there to easily disguise any mistakes. Another tricky item to wrap can be soft, squishy items like stuffed animals or pillows. Try using Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure any loose edges and gather the top with a ribbon to give it a polished finish, showing that even the toughest shapes and sizes deserve a thoughtful touch.

If wrapping in a hurry, use Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure the edges and make it look seamless. To hide wrapping slip-ups, use a festive and unique bow like a honeycomb paper embellishment or a hand-cut snowflake. Not only does it hide any little imperfections, but it also adds an extra pop of holiday cheer, making your gift look even more exciting and festive.
