"My partner is a scientist who studies reindeer, so I've been lucky enough to spend a fair amount of time with these strange animals and the people who herd them. The relationship between the deer and the herders is unique in the realm of human-animal relationships, more akin to symbiosis than to any definition of domestication.
"The crunching texture of the footsteps through snow suggested a rhythmic element to me, so I built a track around that, with various herder calls processed and layered throughout, and a Mongolian jaw harp and hengereg drum to tie things together."
