Valkyries are figures from Norse mythology, often depicted as warrior maidens who serve the god Odin. Their primary role is to choose who lives and who dies in battles and to escort the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, the hall of the slain. Valhalla is a great hall in Asgard, the realm of the gods, where these chosen warriors—known as Einherjar—prepare to fight alongside Odin during Ragnarok, the prophesied end of the world.
