welcome to the Destination Kingdom podcast where
one friend sharpens another and culture meets Christianity.
I'm your host, Dee and I'm Kee.
Welcome to the Destination Kingdom podcast.
We are a bi-weekly podcast hosted by two friends, Dee and Kee
and we are on a mission to make sure culture and Christianity meet
because you cannot impact what you are not a part of.
Let's get into this week's episode.
See, that was perfect I definitely improvised some stuff.
That's okay.
Yeah, it’ll be okay
Okay.
Welcome back.
Welcome back.
Oh, it's been it's been two years since they've heard us.
Yeah.
But they're going to get a couple of episodes before this. So.
Okay.
But yes, it's been a minute since ya’ll heard us in real life
in current 2024 life. Okay.
Right, right.
So welcome back everybody.
Yeah.
We got a lot to catch up on the first two episodes Right.
That'll drop before this one.
Do a little catch up.
Okay, so the thing is, I'd say that we talked about in 2023.
We recorded it.
So this actually, you know, DK has always been on our heart.
The Lord has been dealing with us.
And he actually
was dealing with this about some things on the business, side of DK.
And just make sure
like our behind the scenes stuff was together.
For whatever he trying to plan for us going forward.
And then in the middle of this I launched a business, Dee launched a business
and We both went into different career areas.
Dee got married.
A lot has happened.
Yeah, I was
I like, okay, a lot has happened.
And y'all know we like to do things in decency and in order.
Okay.
So. Yeah.
But before we really get into this week's episode, we are going to be doing
a couple of changes for ya’ll So one of those is
we will have shorter episodes in the hope that we'll be able to get
you all, episodes in a timely fashion. And,
it'll also allow us,
you know, a little bit of reprieve on the editing side
because we do all of this our selves.
and we got two businesses we running, we work full time,
and we still want to do what the Lord has told us to do.
Okay. Oh, yes.
Lord, I mean, so, yeah, you guys have, never forgotten.
This is this is not a hey big head, text.
This is.
I want you back
like, what can I do?
Like, I didn’t forget about you.
You was Always on my mind, you know?
And I know I've been doing all my other stuff, but I'm
back and I'm better.
I went away and did some work. Amen.
That actually leads us into this.
weeks topic.
So just talk about getting away and doing some work on yourself.
Dee and I we had a meeting for, like, business and stuff, and one of the things
I fell on my heart to talk about was the fact that you're a priority, too.
So that's the title of the episode, Your Priority too.
And I think everything we just talked about, like, I want you back, here
I and work on myself from a business standpoint
is just by understanding that you have to get away.
Sometimes.
And I really like getting the work and just let God rejuvenate you, you know?
And Deanna, we were talking about, like, that's how I sometimes
when you prioritize other things
that other people before you prioritize your stuff, it can be hard,
right?
Right.
I think we both, have our own struggles with it, especially
when you are like a people pleaser, naturally.
Like you want everybody to be happy.
Like, a lot of times you will put your stuff on the back burner.
So we had to grow in that as well.
So I think at a key, when we were doing, I mean, I was like,
I'm excited to see, the growth that we will hear
in the podcast going forward, because we have definitely the,
internal work, both of us, personally.
So, it's been a minute, but we like to start with a think about it.
So our thing about it, on the topic
of your priority to so many of, you know, Fantasia,
and how she really
she kind of struggle when she first came out on this thing.
And what we wanted to highlight is, like, she took a minute,
she really stepped away, to focus on herself.
Her healing, her family like her husband.
And like, we've been able to witness her growth.
And I think it's hard when you already have to struggle,
when you already struggle to grow, and focus on your healing,
but to have to do it in the public eye, which she had to do.
It's been beautiful to see
how she has blossomed, and God has really blessed her team.
Fold, with her husband starting out in those crazy relationships.
The movie is Color Purple. We are. Let's see. Cute there.
The tour is her new production business.
And, like, all these things that are just, you know,
more than she could have asked.
And she's talked about this as well,
like how she really had to step away and like, focus on, on herself.
And so when you do that, I think that you were better prepared
to come out and do the work that God has for you.
Yeah.
You know, Ashley. So it's crazy.
We were asked to talk about this today in church.
And the person second about I'm making sure that we have
the power of the Holy Spirit so that when we can be
ready to walk through the doors that Christ has already opened for us,
and I think, like, that's just a testament to, like you were saying with,
the thing about with Fantasia, like,
you go through so much or you can just get burnt out very quickly
and you just start kind of doing things that don't really align
with where God calls you to be to other people.
You may look like you fine, but on the inside it's like I'm drowning
you know, and you end up just making different decisions.
There's not a amazing, you know, not to put in my business and anything like that.
We all know what happened with Fantasia, but like, like you said, you just see her
come back and just,
you know, she went through different things
and different relationships and from the outside looking here because,
you know, my life, but it look like, you know, she's man Billy's husband.
They genuinely like love and supports her.
And they are actually building their own legacy and their own.
You know what I'm saying, Empire.
And like you say, the movies towards the production base.
Everything like
you do need their time to step away.
So when you come back, you're able to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.
So yeah, right. Right.
But yes.
So, our first main point is
how can you take time out for yourself and do what refills you?
So, can you tell us a little bit about what that looks like for you?
You know what?
I am actually still in the season of,
reprioritizing myself, and that was different.
So I'll tell thee a couple times, like the things they used to make
me happy, used to, like, refuel me.
Now I'll be a light source.
Right?
So it's like, okay, now I need the time away to just track stuff again.
Like, he, And also, like, changing my mindset about things.
So, like, it's more of a I get to do this mindset, like, you know what I mean?
Like working out it with the time or working out
with, like, the de-stress for me.
And now just as like something to do or at Dia and but it's like, no,
you know, if I had this overall goal like with health
and things like that, like it's a blessing, I get to do it
and I don't have to go super hard every day.
Like, let's just that one
move our, our bodies where they're stretching, walking, whatever.
So, I think the how I'm still trying to figure out,
but I'm trying to be more intentional with my time management to put me on
my calendar.
Or because the calendar is
real and I'm like, I look at, my calendar is like right above me.
And so I'm like looking at, my audience up on my calendar,
like, where do you put time and for yourself?
So I think for me, I never thought I was going to be a calendar person first off.
But here we are, because you get a certain age in me to my stuff going on.
But no, I will
say, I noticed for me over the last, like week
and a half, I've been trying to, like, just get up in the morning.
I'm like, I do this thing where you, like, gently wake yourself up.
And so I, like, start with my eyes, and then I move my,
my jaw and, like, my hands.
And I just kind of stretch while I'm in bed.
And then me and my therapist were talking and she was like,
what about, like, putting on some music in the morning and, like,
getting back into some of those things?
The five years ago, six years ago, I can't really remember how long ago, but,
it was when I was at my very first job when I moved to Jacksonville.
So, I realized like, okay, what was my routine?
The light, because I felt like I was prioritizing me,
but I was still like out and about doing things.
So starting to get back to that.
So, I listen to some music one day this week.
Some days I don't, because I do like silence.
People that know me know I like silence.
It gives me time to, like, speak with my thoughts.
But it was just refreshing.
And I actually, like, felt like I got a good night's sleep that night.
That I did, like all those things in the morning.
And it's like it was just like an extra ten, 15 minutes
out of my day to, like, do something extra for me.
But in the end, like, I rested well because I had my little girl
in a very long time.
So, I think just trying to find
little moments throughout the day to do little things, even if it's just like
for me, my counselor to me all the time, like, do some deep breathing
or like do a meditation for 20 minutes.
Did y'all know if you do a meditation for 20 minutes equates to
like a two hour and a
no girl?
I was like, what?
Because like, I'm in
what? Really? So.
Okay, so, the food for thought I did find that out.
I have not implemented yet.
Me and my therapist still working through that,
but those are just some of the things that I'm trying to figure out.
Like what works for my space that I'm in right now in life.
And just getting getting back out into the community,
because I work from home now, so meeting new people and things like that also helps
to refill me because I don't I'm calm, common, social,
but I'm kind of nice. So,
I need a little bit of social interaction.
Okay.
I like you, you know, let us know when you, start
doing a meditation day, like, you know, how how you doing?
High energy levels. I want to know that.
Yeah. I'm like, they they may.
I mean, just from me doing this stuff in the morning has been helpful.
So I'm excited to see what this 20 minute when I get for either you.
Yeah that's the I like that.
One of the other points that we wanted to make
too is like how we're talking about putting ourselves on the calendar
and making time to refuel ourselves and rejuvenate.
I think it's important to remember that even Jesus took time away to retreat
with the Holy Spirit.
And two examples of that was,
where he was with three, actually, where he was in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Right before they came.
We got him at the the, betrayal.
And then when he went up to the mountaintop, I mean, there's the,
he was by himself. Matt.
Granite temptation came right.
And then when he was also asleep on a boat, like all three of those
stuff was going on around Jesus like.
And if you look at that, hey, girl, it was a lot of chaos.
But he still managed to go and retreat.
And particularly like in the Garden of Gethsemane, I feel like
is a real testament to like he went and he prayed.
But the number one thing is that he prayed is like, Lord,
I don't really want to do this, but yet still you're we are not my.
I just need you to give me what I need. Go through this.
And I think, like a lot of times when you're going through like you're
so busy with life, so everything, like you say, it just feels like chaos.
It just feels like, oh, excuse me.
It just feels like I'm going, going and going and going and going and
it's like, oh, I'm about to freak out, you know?
Right.
But like, making sure you get that time just like Jesus did it.
Because in a storm, it was a literal storm out there, like people
fighting for their lives.
And if you like me, baby, I can't swim,
okay?
I can't sleep.
So I would definitely be like, hey, y'all know why Jesus does?
Because, I can't sleep.
But like, he was faithful and he got up.
Dad was like, yeah, that's a little faith.
Yeah.
Right out of fear.
We tell me I'm good.
We got it.
I'm like have we got have the sense of peace
and calm in the middle of
water.
That's convenient for me because that just has some stuff going on.
I mean so the but I just misspoke on and it like it really rocked me.
It made me feel like really chaotic and stuff.
But I'm, I'm almost, you know, she my mom and evangelist now y'all.
Also, that's another thing my mama got, or they
and it's happened that we've been as I'm my mom is an evangelist now
her mom was like, you know, you got the forever the Lord in your life.
You got think you I like I had
that, I got it, but it was yeah.
This is still aggravating me.
But just like you said, just having faith in your storm.
Like it don't matter that God or God is somewhere.
Yeah.
And, one of the things, in church,
it wasn't this week, but previously, one of the worship leaders, she was like,
look at your neighbor and tell them something,
that you that God has done for you this year.
And she made you look at three different people
and tell them three different things
that God has done just this year alone for you.
And then thinking about not only they're okay like he's
an all this year like, but all the years that he's done things like
why would he not do it again?
Like that should be our source of faith
and that should be what brings us peace when we're in our storms.
Why he's done it before.
Why he's back now.
So falls under.
But then also like social interaction,
like those are different types of events they may pour into you.
So really trying to figure out what kind of rest do you need.
There's also a creative race.
So like DQ is the outlet for Earth.
My stationary business is the outlet for me.
So like they also pour into me.
I can stay up super late doing it, but I may not be tired
because it's pouring into me in a different way.
So figuring out what it looks like for you, to get the different
kind of race that pours into you in these different parts of you and,
That's the I like it.
Yeah. I'm Galahad about.
It was like I was trying to hold it in there.
Okay.
This is like. Oh.
But. Yes.
No, that that, was really helpful
for me when I was trying to figure out, especially when life is crazy.
Like, you don't always have 20 minutes.
Sometimes it's just two minutes for a minute.
It's unknown. Okay.
What can I do in this minute?
The light pour into me quickly.
Yeah.
I think,
that's what my life is right now.
Like, I don't always have 20 minutes. I don't always have this and that.
So one of the things that I've, like, got back into doing,
when I went to go visit my sister,
I went to church with her earlier this year.
Yeah. Earlier this year.
In the past, I was like, I want y'all to get up and give God the virus.
And he put a number on there.
But I might have been the first 15, I forget.
But like the first few minutes of your day.
And I was like, what pastor?
I got to be to work at 6 a.m.
like that's at work hours meeting at 6 a.m..
So that mean I got to, you know, be like four 3415.
And he was like,
it is,
like, okay.
But I tried it.
And really, like, I had,
a more peaceful, like, the devil.
Definitely try any device couple of days, you know, you get up, you just like,
okay, whatever am and read my Bible verse 14.
But like, the Lord really kind of started speaking with me.
And it doesn't mean that like, the obstacles changed,
but my reaction to the afterglow started changing.
And like that chaotic feeling, I started to dwindle down.
And so I will admit, life like that, I kind of got away from it.
But now, like, I'm getting back into it.
So where just like,
spin in there first, you know, part of my morning
or a part of my morning, even if it's not the very first thing
I do like, it's one of the first things I do.
I'm like getting up and I'm getting I'm reading this scripture
or I'm reading devotions or something like that.
Just to hand, like you said, like refuel me.
And I think
first, like,
that's one of the things that when studying can that's
where I always got to go back to like, okay, like the Ali.
The more they ask that, you know what I'm saying?
Like what?
What kind of happened for me to feel unsettled, you know.
Yeah.
And I think there's I think most Christians like
if you are reading your where like, you can feel more off than you will
if you was reading it, like when you are equipped, for a battle,
because you're pouring into your spirit, life
is easier to handle those obstacles that come your way.
So I really think,
most people.
Harrisburg I know I'm the same way.
Like, I'm like, okay, like, if I'm involved,
like, I'm not being, for instance, spiritually, like.
And it can be something as quick as reading a scripture, like,
I have these little scripture cards that I keep on my desk
when I go in my office, I'm like, just pick a scripture out, you know?
Because I
don't always, you know, I'm not always
in the headspace to do a devotional first thing in the morning.
So I'm like, I can just grab a scripture.
That's my scriptures for a day.
I keep scriptures all over my desk.
So I'm like, it's something here for me to reference throughout the day
to kind of keep me grounded.
Okay.
We put
yeah, I feel like trying to get this manifest in me.
It's like, whoa, yeah, yeah, it's definitely it's definitely a lot of June.
So, you know.
Yeah.
But, our fourth one was our fourth point.
And we're going to talk more about this fourth point in the next episode.
But it's not about us having to step away from destination feeling
and to get ourselves together and learning how to balance the new phases of life.
So, part of my testimony to the Lord and for me, a good man.
Savannah.
Okay, praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord does clap, clap, clap.
So. And that we've been together
and at times this is a year and a half or a little over a year and a half.
By the time this is so God is good.
And we talked about new jobs with the DNR both going through.
We talked about being a mayor, a lot of different things happening.
But like we are having.
So reprioritize our sales and what it looks like in these new phases of life.
So we'll talk more about that in episode two.
But just want to kind of encourage you guys in the meantime.
So like think about ways that you can reprioritize yourself.
Life is in a life.
And give yourself grace to because there's one number
different every season of life, you know, and I know
we said a lot of things not to go to, but I know we said a lot of things.
And I think one thing that I have to remind myself,
too, is that you cannot implement all these things at one time.
Right?
So, like I went to a class like two weeks ago
and I'm like, okay, I want to do this, this and this.
And I'm like, I.
So my takes us back to what is the one thing I'm like, I'm happy
as I'm out there, but there's a week. So we lie.
And so we, we going to check in and see how things go.
So do what works for you.
And sometimes this trial and error like trial.
One thing for like a couple of weeks, if it ain't working okay.
Like try something else.
And just slowly start to implement it into your schedule.
And the second thing I will say too, is get you an accountability partner,
get somebody to hold you accountable to say, hey,
how did you do this week with whatever it is that you're implementing?
Because those are
ways that you can keep yourself, from keeping
you can keep yourself a priority.
Yeah I like that.
Thank you.
That was I don't know, say like give yourself grace.
I like the way you write those two.
And I think that that's a good segue to leave everybody
as we go into the second episode.
What excuse me is that, is that any episode yaki for getting there
when this airs?
I mean, I heard about two episodes by now, but,
but then segue into the next episode.
But I do want to leave y'all, with some scriptures at the end of reference today.
So the first one where we talked about, the Lord Jesus
having to go into the Garden of Gethsemane to get away for a little bit.
There is, Matthew 26, verses 36 to 46.
So y'all can implement this in your devotion time if you want.
And then the second one that we referenced was Matthew eight, verses 23 through 27,
and that specifically talks about when Jesus was asleep on the boat.
And then, well, we mentioned it here, but I don't have the scripture right offhand
about when he went up to the mountain top to fast, when he came out the barn.
So we'll, we'll try to find that and link that in the show notes.
Yeah.
A little bit of notes and so. Yeah, yeah.
We back, we back together again with.
Thank you.
Look, thank you all for hanging in there with us.
It's been a minute. We're licensed for a week.
I was I was on our hearts and our minds.
So, we look forward to hearing y'all's feedback
and continuing to talk with y'all and all of it.
Yeah. So we'll see you next time.
Bye. Bye.
You have a baby.
You better.
