Musician Vincent Sims on Touring, Studio Gigs & September Guitars Galore

On August 30, 2024, The Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association (ADTBJA) presented  “Guitars Galore”  at the freeFall Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. The concert featured five of the most dynamic guitarists in the Tampa Bay area performing solo sets as well as a combined grand finale with all five guitarists:   Carl Amundson, Bart Hanchey, Charley Robinson, Jose Velandia, and Vincent Sims. The evening’s rhythm section included Richard “STretch” Bruyn on piano, Kenny “DrLoHertz” Walker on bass, and Ron Gregg on drums.

RadioStPete.com Sunshine96.7 FM news director/host Nanette Wiser spoke with local jazz musician Vincent Sims about his musical journey and the evening's jam.

Vincent Sims raised in St. Petersburg, FL attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston receiving a 2 year certificate in jazz performance and received a Bachelors degree in Information Systems from The University of South Florida. He has played with many recognized artists in the jazz and blues fields including The Al Downing The All Stars, Lucky Peterson, James Peterson, Koko Taylor, Belinda Womack and the Lauren Mitchell Band (the Grammy winner who now lives in Mexico, formerly from Bradenton.
Vincent is a former President of the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association, and is currently the Membership chairman of the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association.
