ROUNDTABLE: Flood emergency response in South Sudan

Floods in South Sudan have overwhelmed most parts of the country, affecting more than 470 000 people. The flood crisis is expected to peak in September. In an environment where funding is scarce, the government of South Sudan's response to the flood is hampered by an economic crisis. The humanitarian partners are also facing dwindling funding as there are several global crises that donors are responding to. The United Nations Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General/Resident coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, Anita Kiki Gbeho tells Radio Miraya that 2024 is particularly a "difficult year." Humanitarian and Disaster Affairs Minister Albino Akol Atak says community response is just as important as the support from international efforts. He tells people to move to higher ground where they will be met with humanitarian assistance.
