Nicole participated in SHINE 2021 as a visiting artist from Miami. She now lives in St. Pete and is helping us organize the SHINE Finale event as well as creating a custom installation for it. I'm going to have her speak about her experience of SHINE vs other festivals she's been part of, how the St. Pete art scene compares to Miami and what we can all expect from the finale event.

Nicole Salgar is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in public art. Her Latin heritage, Miami upbringing, and passion for travel profoundly influence her work. Exposure to diverse cultures has shaped her artistic style, allowing her to blend vibrant imagery with rich cultural narratives. Through various residencies and professional opportunities, Nicole has traveled extensively, creating art in Cuba, Europe, South America, the United States etc. In every community, she engages with both adults and youth, using art as a powerful means of connection and expression. Nicole believes that art and design are transformative, with the ability to elevate both the artist and the communities they engage. For her, self-expression comes naturally, and art is the medium through which she communicates her vision.

SHINE® Mural Festival https://stpeteartsalliance.org/shine-mural-festival One of St. Petersburg's most accoladed festivals, the SHINE® Mural Festival (October 11-20) celebrates the Festival's 10th Anniversary this year recognizing the transformative power of a decade of public art.  CEO Terry Marks St. Petersburg Arts Alliance produces the event; she and Priebe have big plans for the kick-off party 10/11 at The Morean and the Big Finale at FloridaRAMA on 10/19 with 100 artists in a reunion show. By using the walls and streets as canvas, SHINE transforms our shared spaces into a world-class outdoor gallery featuring top contemporary local, national, and international artists.  There have been 125+ artists from 17 different countries and 168 new murals created since 2015 revitalizing neighborhoods, inspiring dialogue and uniting communities. To date, close to 60 murals have been lost due to development. https://stpeteartsalliance.org/shine-2024
