Stock indices around the world have slumped after weak manufacturing and employment data in the US raising concerns that the US economy may be on its way to recession.
This has been compounded by the Japan central bank raising their interest rates meaning an exaggerated sell off there too. This also affects the Yen carry trade.
The Fed again has been late to the party. They were late raising interest rates and raised them too quickly and now are late reducing them and now it’s looking like they are going to have to reduce them faster than expected.
Good News
The markets are now pricing in five Federal Reserve interest rate cuts this year. Five is a massive change.
This has gone up from just two forecasted rate cuts, last week. There’s also rumours an emergency FED rate cut could happen this week.
