In 2017, a painting by Williem De Kooning was found hanging on the bedroom wall of a deceased middle class New Mexico couple. The painting had been missing since 1985 and was WORTH $160 MILLLION. The couple was Jerry and Rita Alter. They were beloved teachers. Just regular people. But as their family--and the world--started to look into their lives, absolutely nothing about who this couple was seemed to be true.
