The Afrikaandermarkt is a market place in the south of Rotterdam. Traditionally a working class area, this neighbourhood, over the last five decades has become a gathering place of cultures from all over the world, and this is reflected in the visitors as well as the sellers and their products of this weekly market in the central square, Afrikaanderplein.

This is one of a series of recordings I made to capture the atmosphere of the market; I made it a habit to bring my recorder when doing my grocery shopping there every Saturday.

Recorded by Jan Huijben.
