South Sudan is turning 13 on the 9th of July 2024.

The 13th independence anniversary comes at a time when the country is facing uncertainties as security remains fragile, critical political directions on transition still lack clarity, and the humanitarian situation is dire due to several shocks. The catalogue of challenges is quite long, particularly at a time when economic misfortunes are pushing many of the citizens to poverty. However, there are many stories that define the diverse lives of South Sudanese other than the challenges they face. In this episode of The Roundtable, Sani Martin poses South Sudan's critical political, economic, social and humanitarian questions as guests reflect on the path that the country has traversed, and indeed the future that lies ahead. In the studio, Sani is in conversation with:

  • Prof. Peter Adwok Nyaba
  • Bol Makuen Ayuol, SPLM Secretary for External Relations
  • Regina Jospeh Kaba, SPLM-IO SG
