Many parts of South Sudan are anticipating unprecedented floods. Authorities in Uganda say levels in Lake Victoria levels have gone up and they will be releasing water. Downstream in South Sudan, this is expected to trigger flooding. The IGAD Climate Prediction Centre has forecast intensified rainfall in the region, further raising the risk of flood occurrence. In places like Bentiu, in the past, flooding has displaced communities and this year, there are fears of the similar displacements. However, UNMISS Climate Advisor Dr Johnsom Nkem tells Radio Miraya that floods must also be seen in positive light as the deluge of freshwater can present opportunities. He is in conversation with Miraya's Peter Bateman.
