Dark with Excessive Bright an Immersive Dance Experience

Dark with Excessive Bright is a truly immersive accessible dance production which premiered at the Royal Opera House in London during February 2024 as part of the Festival of New Choreography by Robert Binet with immersive descriptive audio by Devon Healey. 

Robert is Choreographic Associate at the National Ballet of Canada and was the first choreographic apprentice at the Royal Ballet in London. Devon is a Theatre Artist and an Assistant Professor of Disability Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey caught up with Devon and Robert all the way from Canada to find out how their collaboration on Dark with Excessive Bright came about, how Devon worked on the immersive descriptive audio making the piece accessible to everyone, the feedback they have had from blind and partially sighted people during the time the piece was on at the Royal Opera House and their next collaboration which may come back to London in 2025.
