“Mara?” Mom was standing behind me, and she was wearing her forced smile again. “You should get going, sweetie.”
I turned back to Connor, who slumped in his chair with a scoff. “I'm fine,” he grumbled. “Go ahead. Have fun.”
Instead of questioning my brother’s strange behavior, I turned away from him and followed my mother out into the yard.
I felt Connor’s glare following me out of the door.
I never saw that version of my brother again.
Maybe that's a good thing though.
