Roundtable: Civil Society call for 'renewed approach' to South Sudan transitional process
Episode 2591, Dec 02, 2023, 08:39 AM
More than 80 civil society groups from South Sudan met recently in Dare es-Salaam, Tanzania and drafted a detailed set of resolutions expressing their grave concerns about the direction the transitional process in the country is taking.
The civil groups are specifically calling for ‘a renewed approach’ to the transitional process – highlighting six key areas where they would like to see reform.
Their resolutions were supported by 18 regional and international signatories, standing in solidarity with their counterparts in South Sudan.
This comes exactly one year to the end of the extended interim period in December 2024, when elections are expected to be conducted.
Today we are going to take a deeper look into concerns by the civil society groups – specifically looking at how the transitional period be concluded successfully, climaxing in a credible vote.
Joining Sani Martin to discuss this are:
1. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization
2. Patrick Godi, Youth Representative to R-JMEC
3. Zabib Musa, Director Women for Justice and Equality
