Mesoamerican reef at night

Oct 05, 2023, 10:15 AM

Underwater recording of coral reef at night recorded autonomously (no human presence to change the soundscape). Punta Nizuc is a marine protected area off the coast of Cancun. At night, there are no loud boat motors. The primary crackling sound you hear is snapping shrimp. There are a few subtle fish sounds as well. The overall experience is somewhat like brown noise, which is excellent for sleeping! Perhaps this is even better because this reef soundscape is non-random.
