On Monday 25 September 2023 at the RNIB’s London office the Grimaldi Building held an event around accessible voting for blind and partially sighted people looking at new ways to make voting more accessible for visually impaired people both now and in the future.

Our Toby Davey caught up with Tom Hawthorn, Head of Policy at the Electoral Commission to find out more about some of the ways voting is made accessible to visually impaired people and what types of accessible voting people were testing out at the RNIB Accessible Voting event plus what might be on offer now and in the future to assist blind and partially sighted people when voting.

Tom also explained how the Electoral Commission will be taking forward the feedback from the testing that blind and partially sighted people have been taking part in during the event.

There is a wide amount of information and advice about accessible voting on the Electoral Commission website -
